UNBELIEVABLE!The idiot server had the nerve to offer to take our appetizer off the bill. The Anvil Pub 611 Doug Baker Blvd Ste 103, Hoover, AL 35242 I hate to think that the only reason our service was so poor is due to the fact that we were the only minorities in the place. The majority of the tables we occupied and all the guest were eating. As we're leaving the restaurant the first floor dining area was packed. We were on a buisness lunch and on a time constraint so once our entrees arrived we had to leave. Are we the only ones confused by this response:/ when do to-go orders take precedents over dine in orders. Then the servers had the gall to inform us that a to-go order had been came in which is why we had to continue to wait for our food. The tables that were sat after us had eaten and were requesting their check while we still waiting for our food. This must have confused her because our appetizer came out 30 minutes before our food. I requested our appetizer be put in at the same time as our entree. After 5 min she surfaced smelling like an ashtry. Three other tables had been seated within minutes of us, two of the tables had their drink order in while we sat waiting for our server. The server was too busy on her phone and outside smoking while we waited for service. The service was terrible! The place opened at 11a, we were the first customers there. Salad was dressed well and sandwich had various sides to choose which I choose Asian cole slaw! Our friends chose lettuce cups and beef sandwich! They were equally satisfied with theirs! Food and service were top notch! Very pleased with our entire experience! Highly recommend as a lunch spot! We had dinner as a couple last year and was equally impressed! We will definitely return! We placed our order for food and just received our refill for our drinks when food was up! My wife had the cedarburg salad and I had bar-b-que duck sandwich. Beautiful inside and out! The attention to detail with iron decor and simple line design along with exposed beams brings historical essence to the overall experience! We enjoyed watching the bar staff as well as kitchen staff work methodically! We enjoyed our conversation and catching up between friends. Great choice! The Anvil is a restored 19th century blacksmith shop. We sampled a few beers before deciding on an Amber Ale. The bartender was attentive and knowledgeable about their ample selection of beers and wines. It was after 1 pm and we decided to stop in at the Anvil Pub and Grill! Hostess indicated that a table for four would be about 20 minutes but we could sit at the bar and eat immediately which we did. Cedarburg was bustling with a nice crowd enjoying such a wonderful Spring Day! My wife and I along with another couple were hungry for some good food after walking along and shopping Washington Avenue. The Anvil was really busy on the first Saturday in May. ![]()
